The Gaps in Everyday Life(日常のすきま)
The Gaps in Everyday Life [English Translation]
A summer day, clouds in the sky
Were swallowed by something unknown
Fantasy and creation
Pieced together like a puzzle
It never quite works out
The gaps in everyday life
Morning news, half-watched
I don’t even notice my coffee’s gone cold
Lining up today’s plans in my head
Then flicking them away like falling dominoes
Sha-la-la-la — me and this Earth
Sha-la-la-la — spinning as we move along
Tangled consciousness and logic
Still, the days keep going on
A winter day, freezing winds
Melting away a snowman
Ordinary days and innocent hearts
Let the kite fly up into the sky
The string may snap, but still—
The gaps in everyday life
But just before the elevator doors close
I suddenly catch someone’s eyes
Keeping the boundary with reality
Yet letting a thick wall fall
Sha-la-la-la — all of us and this universe
Sha-la-la-la — repeating dialogue and conflict
Entangled in complex connections
Step by step, society takes shape
If you’re tired, it’s okay to rest
And when you feel better, let’s walk again
Even if things don’t go well
It’s fine — it’s fine
An ordinary day, a crowded train
A list of goals lined up at the office
Noise and confusion
Keeping rhythm with the keyboard’s sound
Somehow, I’ll manage
The gaps in everyday life
Liner Notes
“Nichijou-no-Sukima” refers to a place that is only slightly out of step with the ordinary.
Yet it is, in the end, just a “gap.”
Sooner or later, everyday life returns.
I myself once became mentally unwell due to work.
At the time, so-called black companies were commonplace, and I kept working while damaging my health.
Now, however, I feel that society is slowly changing into one where it is acceptable to truly rest and recover.
In the final chorus of this song, I wrote about a simple but important process:
rest properly, regain your strength, and then return to everyday life.
Even if you go back to the routine, it will be okay.
At the very least, you’ll be able to manage somehow.
I hope this song can offer even a small sense of reassurance and courage.
